Tiber flood on 12th December 2008: the water level is very close to the seabream of Ponte Sisto

The recent flood of the Tiber was a true story of great media coverage and the Net have seen so many movies and photos documenting the details of the event. E 'is also well known that, during its long history, the Eternal City has experienced numerous floods. The "old tub", the famous fountain built by Bernini's father at the foot of the steps of Piazza di Spagna, is said to have been placed in memory of a very old tub dragged there by the fury of river. On the walls of the old town are visible small plates that show the level reached by the waters and the years covered in the event. Stop dates to 1870, from which were erected the famous discussed how to contain the river embankments. Ponte Sisto in Rome has always functioned as an alarm to the overflowing of the Tiber. In fact, this bridge has four arches with a large circular hole on the central pier, the ' seabream. The passage of water through the ' seabream was the signal of safe flood the city.

" There would be a revolt of the people once again if you were to give aid to Fiat. We have already paid many times and can not be shared debts and keep the profits .

Unbelievable but true. I never thought I can say in my life, but for the first time I fully agree with a statement of the League's Roberto Calderoli, minister for the simplification legislation.

We are on the usual "Fiat called and the government responds." The excuse is always the same. Whenever it is noted that the automotive company in Turin is an offshoot of the Italian economy, with its crucial 83 000 375 000 Employees and related workers to industries. Hence (we'll know Wednesday after meeting with representatives of the automotive industry) served in the 2009 edition of the scrappage scheme guaranteed by the Government.

All my solidarity with the workers of Fiat, whose fate is certainly in my heart. That said I believe that the government would do a better service to the Italian citizen (including Fiat and then the employee) making bad, rather than placating the symptom. The sharp decline that characterizes today's automotive industry (-13%) believe it is due more to the effects of high oil prices of recent months that the current economic crisis. To this we must add the systematic slow (issimissimo) adjustment of gasoline prices when the cost of a barrel goes down (and also already created the first fans of this club policy). In fact have an impact on consumers' pockets is not so much the purchase of the machine, but rather its maintenance.

If the refining and marketing of oil has its own responsibilities, the Italian State is no exception. The continued use of incentives for scrapping is actually a way to divert attention from the real issue, that taxes (excise duties) state that affect the price of gasoline. 60 - 70% of the cost of a liter of unleaded gasoline is currently made up of excise duties and taxes through which the state for decades replenish its coffers, some of which are truly absurd.

Here are the details:

1.90 pounds for the war in Abyssinia in 1935;

14 lire to the Suez crisis of 1956;

10 lire for disaster Vajont, 1963;

10 pounds for 'Florence flood of 1966;

10 lire to the Belice earthquake of 1968;

99 pounds for the earthquake in Friuli in 1976;

75 pounds for the Irpinia earthquake of 1980;

205 pounds for the mission in Lebanon in 1983;

22 pounds for the mission in Bosnia in 1996;

0.020 € 2004 for contract renewal autoferrotranviari

All for a total of € 0.25 cents of which must be added (so as not to miss anything) also the VAT, the tax on tax!

Certainly the state can not waive such a lot of money, because a cut in this direction would be to take a road without possibility of return (can you imagine the popular uprisings in the case of ritassazione ?!?). The incentive one-off, scrapping fact, it is therefore much cheaper both economically, and from the viewpoint of the image. Consumers appreciate your selflessness!

I leave you with the usual musical suggestion. I think, but I also feel your on, very appropriate ways.
